Popular Wheel Finishes in 2022
The right wheels make all the difference. Taking a truck from a “nice” to “DAMN!”
When planning to outfit your rig on some new wheels and tires, aim to achieve a cohesive look; you need to consider the color palette, and it’s as much or even more important than the wheel design. When you get the combo right, like Voltron, they combine into one breakneck truck. Wheel trends have come and gone along with different paints and finishes, for 2022 let’s discuss what we think will be the most popular.
Chrome will get you home! It’s an adage as probably as old as the chroming process. From our research, the saying originated during the bronze age when everyone couldn’t get home. Since AAA premier didn’t exist yet nobody had 200 miles of towing per year, so they needed a more reliable wheel finish. These are facts, okay? Any reputable historian will tell you the same, no need to look that up or fact-check it. Annnnnnnyway- the adage is as true as it’s ever been, but throughout 2021, with you guessed it- the fluster cluck of nonsense there were actually far fewer chrome offerings in the marketplace. Things were back-ordered forever, so a lot of folks couldn’t get chrome wheels, and were forced to get more popular painted wheel finishes.
We’re talking of course about, the supply chain, the chip shortage, inflation of material costs, and of course the COVIDs. All this meant for some long wait times if things made it through the supply chain at all. To boot, the chroming process is very labor and time-intensive, more on the chroming process and a chrome wheel finish we like much more here (Hyperlink “Why you should choose PVD coated chrome over traditional chrome-plated wheels”) Fortunately, Chrome is not only timeless but slated for a big comeback in 2022.
Bet on black- Black is always in vogue, you remember when Kim Kardashian wore Batman’s dominatrix’s latex outfit to a gala and that was apparently classy AF? To be fair, everyone at that thing dressed like they were an Anime Villain, so it’s all fair game. Fortunately, our black finishes look at home with just about all body paint colors and equally in any environment- whether out on the trail or hard parking at the mall. In fact, black is a super popular factory wheel finish from factory, so if you’re looking to go bigger, wider, or more aggressive but want to keep your color scheme black is always a safe bet. Put it all on black, or was that red? Or why not both?
We got you:

Blackhorse offers a healthy variety of black finishes, from textured, gloss to matte, and we offer 4 different hardware accent color combinations if you like it a little bit spicy.
Wheel designs and colors can be fads, they come and go, or don’t age well. 2010’s 22’s are long gone and we’re onto 28’s now. Candy apple, ice cream, other food-inspired car trends, aged about as well as their namesakes left in the sun.
Our horse in this race is the black one…. Our suggestions are to keep it timeless in 2022, and we predict the trend will be because after all that hot brown we just waded through to get here, let’s keep some of the tasteful wheel finishes on our rigs, right?
